Forget the tight green tights this is a new Robin Hood. The first images have just been released and Russell Crowe looks great. There were rumors that Crowe was going to be too fat to play the slender English folk character after packing on nearly 65 pounds for his past two movies Body of Lies (great movie), and State of Play. Producer Brian Grazer explained: “He doesn’t have the old Robin Hood tights. He’s got armour. He’s very medieval. He looks, if anything, more like he did in Gladiator than anything we’re used to seeing with Robin Hood.”
Actress Sienna Miller was supposed to be cast in the movie playing the role of Maid Marian but she left the film for unknown reasons and was replaced by Cate Blanchett. The movie script has been changed several times, and an initial plan to cast the Sheriff of Nottingham as the hero and Robin as a morally ambiguous vigilante were dropped. The role of Robin Hood is trying to create equality in a world where there are a lot of injustices. He’s a crusader for the people, trying to reclaim some of the ill-gotten gains of the wealthy. That’s a universal theme.
Can’t wait to see the movie when it comes out!
