Carmelita Durio, the sister of OJ Simpson died in a Sacramento hospital from diabetes complications. Carmelita, who was 60 years old was an avid supporter of her brother throughout his numerous trials was believed to be under stress from his last trial where he was proven guilty for armed robbery and kidnapping in connection with the theft of sports memorabilia from a Vegas hotel room. The two siblings were close. Carmelita fainted in the courtroom at OJ’s last trial and had to be revived by paramedics. OJ who was in Vegas for his friend’s Tom Scotto wedding before he was arrested for burglary charges made the following statement:
“I think it was the stress. She just couldn’t take it.” “Ever since the trial she just hasn’t been well.”
Doctors advised that in Carmelita’s last days her kidneys had failed. Scotto also advised that Carmelita was taken to the hospital three weeks ago, and was released to a rehabilitation facility but then was returned to the hospital recently and fell into a coma. Funeral arrangements are still pending. Scotto said the family hoped that Simpson would be allowed to come to the funeral. Suzanne Pardee, a spokeswoman for the Nevada Department of Corrections said it was unlikely he would be allowed to go even if he could afford to pay to be transported. But she said the issue had not yet been raised. Its unfortunate that OJ seems to kill everyone around him. Simpson is serving a sentence of nine to 33 years in prison.
