The Miami rapper who became famous for his Billboard 100 hit I’m a Thug has the disease Lupus. Lupus is chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Lupus affects your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart and lungs. The medical profession is unsure where Lupus comes from but they believe it is a combination of your genes, and environment. It is strongly believed that people with an inherited predisposition for lupus may only develop the disease when they come into contact with something in the environment that can trigger lupus, such as a medication or a virus.
During an interview on the Rickey Smiley to promote his autobiography Magic City: Trials of a Native Son the Miami rapper talked about his diagnosis.
“…Took all kinds of tests, because I was trying to get rid of what we call dry skin, she did biopsies and blood tests and swab tests. She told me I have lupus. I am allergic highly to the sun, that’s my worst enemy. It’s like an AK-47 with a double clip on it. I could jeopardize kidney and liver failure from the treatment and the medication.”
“A lot of people try to cover it up with regular make up. It makes your skin pigmented. You can go from dark to light and not light to dark. You have to cover it up and conceal it…my mama had 11 children from 10 different men. If she can live with that I know, I can live with this.”
It’s not all bad news there is medicine for the disease and most people do live active lives. Just pray for him because there is no cure for this disease.
